A WCT MAINSTAGE PRODUCTION

Written & Directed by Cait Cassée
Cast: Grades 3 - 12

The age-old myth of Robin Hood has been told in legend, song and visual story in a thousand iterations. Robin's quest to offer justice to a populace burdened by the fatigue of war and the poverty that comes from an unfair class system is at the heart of most of these stories, which are framed by daring sword play, witty repartee and  the sound of arrows singing through the air.

In WCT's version, written and directed by our own Cait Cassée, we are given a beautifully written, critical lens to look at the powers of good, evil, and everyday heroes from a rich and historically accurate perspective. Richard I has just died, after 10 years of being an absentee king - off fighting his blessed/cursed Crusades and getting kidnapped and held for ransom by the King of Austria. He wasn't a great king. Neither was his brother, John I, who had installed himself as regent for most of that time and done a bang up job of alienating everyone from the church and barons "down" to the commoners. Everyone is disgusted by his overzealous taxation, luxurious tastes, and failed attempts to reclaim hereditary lands in France. The commoners are starving and exploited. Luckily, there are heroes among the common folk who emerge to use their gifts, and help themselves and their people out in these bleak times.

Robin and his band of merry folk offer hope and justice to their country, and to all of us who have ever felt like "the little guy" in our own lives. We welcome you to Sherwood Forest. Let the arrows begin to sing!
