WHIDBEY CHILDREN’S THEATRE

Season of Heroes 2019-2020

Being human is not for the faint of heart.

Anxious, afraid, confused, wronged, helpless, and alone – ooof! This is just a tiny portion of the emotional buffet we endure. Thankfully, we learned to Theatre: we found that by using our bodies, memories, senses and innovative intellect, we could involve others in our experience and share the load.

Since the very first story ever told around the communal fire, we’ve sought inspiration and salvation from stories; the act of coming together to share them is, in itself, the first step to finding solace. They restore us through sharing – laughter, empathy, problem solving, and community building. The best among these are the Hero stories – offering us healing and hope; they comfort and inspire us in dark times, highlight our shared values and reveal to us our best selves.

Heroes are what you and I become when we face our demons and allow the journey to transform but not break us: Not only are we changed for the better – even more than that – we are empowered to transform the world, too.

Enter Bilbo, Mowgli, Jean Valjean, Charlie Bucket and so many others in Whidbey Children’s Theatre’s cast of heroes this season! Encountering “demons” of all sorts – from goblins and dragons to treacherous snakes, sinister tigers, and the more insidious evils of social inequity, bias, greed, ignorance and selfishness, our heroes learn to rely on their courage, wit, integrity, compassion and sheer grit to transform themselves and their world and, in so doing, us.

Join us for a bold and heroic season this 2019-2020 Season of Heroes at Whidbey Children’s Theatre!

It is not usual for a modern work to become a classic so quickly, but this story is clearly in this very special category. It stirs the imagination and intellect of everyone it touches. Don't be fooled by its fairy-tale demeanor; this is very much a story for adults, though children will enjoy it, too. A classic tale of an unlikely hero taking on seemingly insurmountable obstacles….It begins a little something like this: In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.
